Soak & Sleep is the best duvet brand for 2018, according to our survey of 2,144 Which? members, with a near-perfect customer score of 92% and five stars in all categories.

It was the only brand to get five-star ratings across the board – in fact, it was the only brand to get five stars in any category apart from Ikea, which got a five star rating for value for money. Soak & Sleep’s position in the ranks is reflected by the comments we received from very satisfied customers, too.

Many commended its wool duvets, saying they are “very good value for money” and “warm in winter and cool in summer”. Soak & Sleep was rated the best pillow brand, too, so it’s a good bet if you’re looking to buy a full bedding set.

Marks & Spencer faired well, coming in admirable second place with a customer score of 90%. However, it didn’t particularly impress in our survey to find the best mattress brands and best mattress retailers, so consider shopping elsewhere if you’re looking for a new mattress.

At the other end of the table, Argos and Dunelm are the lowest rated duvet brands.

Their customer scores are still respectable though – with 77% and 79% respectively – which means the vast majority were still satisfied with their duvet and would recommend it to a friend.

By far and away, the most popular duvets amongst our members are those from John Lewis – over a fifth of all respondents who bought a duvet in the last five years had chosen the high-street giant. Big-brand rivals Dunelm and Marks & Spencer were the next most popular

Choosing the best type of duvet

Hollowfibre polyester duvets are the most popular type almost a half our members own one of these.  Feather and down duvets are also very popular, and are owned by more than a third of members.

Less popular types include wool, silk and other polyester duvets, with only around one in ten members owning one of these. There are lots of different duvet fillings to choose from and each has its own pros and cons, so it can be difficult to know which will be best for you.

How we rate duvet brands

To find out which are the best and worst duvet brands, in April 2018 we asked 2,144 Which? members to tell us about their duvet. To work out customer scores, we asked what brand of duvet members owned, whether they were satisfied with it, and whether they would recommend it to a friend.

We also asked them to rate their duvet for comfort, value for money and how well it matched the description.
